2008 - 13 Kelsea's Cabernet Sauvignon Vertical

Limited Release
Read on to follow the development of this iconic wine from 2008 right through to our classic 2013 current release.
But what about Kelsea herself?

Kelsea was in her late twenties during this time, returning to her hometown, Perth, in 2008 after living in the UK and traveling Europe. She fulfilled a dream of volunteering for a wild life rehabilitation Centre in Namibia earlier that year.
While enjoying the next few years working in Perth, she always made time to escape to Yallingup, where she grew up going on countless family holidays.
In late 2012 Kelsea met the love of her life and in 2013 was excited to announce they were having their first child Azayley.... Unfortunately for Kelsea this meant a year abstaining from this fabulous wine!
We hope you enjoy this collection of Cabernet Sauvignon vintages from the wonderful Wilyabrup region of Margaret river.

These are the tasting notes at release as published in the James Halliday wine companion

2008 94 Points
Good hue; a full-bodied wine that needs time much time; it shares many things with the ’09 varietal, adding more intensity and a greater tannin structure to the cassis and blackcurrant fruit.

2009 93 Points
Deep garnet; a high impact bouquet of cassis, toasty oak, bramble and cedar are on display; the palate is rich, ripe and unctuous, with firm gravelly tannins needing time to settle down and integrate fully with the fruit and oak.

2010 93 Points
Medium crimson-purple; a powerful wine with cassis, redcurrant and some herbal/olive nuances allied with tannins still needing to soften a little.

2011 95 Points
Bright, although relatively light, colour; the bouquet is highly fragrant and expressive, the medium-bodied palate equally elegant and persuasive; all the flavours, and all the texture, are present and correct.

2012 95 Points
A full-bodied, complex cabernet that has had all the winemaking dials turned up maximum, but in tune with each other, and in balance. The primary blackcurrant fruit is hedged by black olive, the tannins positive but fine, the oak obvious but not excessive.

2013 95 Points
There's no question this will last for years, opens up now with all its varietal and regional flavours from currants, mulberries and blackberries to eucalypt and more earthy tones. Also meshed in neatly are oak spice, pepper, curry leaves and florals, with decisive tannins on its full frame.
