2022 Birdhouse Shiraz

COLOUR  Cherry red.

NOSE  Lifted aromatics of red fruits, raspberry, pomegranate molasses and musk sticks.

PALATE  Juicy and fresh red currant, cranberry & cherry fruits with a hint of darker,  concentrated blackcurrant. Dusty tannin and charry oak give structure and length, drawing the wine through to a bright & moreish finish.

WINEMAKING  Fruit was harvested when flavour, tannin and acid were all in balance. Fruit was fermented in two batches, one batch 100% whole berries, one batch 50% whole, 50% crushed. Wines were pressed off into tank, settled then transferred to French oak barrels. Careful barrel selection brought together rich fruit, firm tannins and a tight acidity to come together beautifully, producing a Shiraz of great structural integrity and one that will reward careful cellaring.

VINTAGE NOTES  A wet Winter and Spring laid down great water reserves going into vintage 2022. A cool and wet Spring meant a slow start, with flowering and veraison tracking behind previous years, but the weather soon warmed up and ripening charged ahead. The warm. dry weather that came gave us great flavour concentration across all varieties and allowed for maturation of tannin and flavour with minimal disease pressure, providing for another great vintage in Margaret River,
